A guy in my area did this as well and I feel bad for him. Nice family, takes care of his house, garden and lawn and just overdid it one time. He’s probably is living with despair and anger with himself each time he comes home.

That looks intentional, opposite side of the yard looks dug up as well. Wonder if they are doing a full re-landscape & swapping to a rock front yard, or redoing the sprinkler system and starting from scratch.

Might be prepping to do some lawn Reno’s, I use lawn killer to start off with so it kills it off at the roots, and I have a genuine fresh start

My parents had some FOB Chinese neighbours that confused rock salt for fertilizer and excitedly told my dad that he fertilized their grass for them.
